What Are Bike Rodeos?
Bring (or borrow) a bicycle and helmet for the following events to promote bicycle and traffic safety and bicycle skills:
BIKE RODEOS
Bicycle Rodeos are events that incorporate the following:
In the fall of 2012, Safe Moves of Southern California led Bike Rodeos for the entire student body at Corte Madera School, grades 4-8. The following is their program description:
The Bicycle and Pedestrian Skills Course Rodeo is an interactive hands-on program allowing students in grades 4-8 to experience traffic situations as pedestrians and bicyclists in a traffic simulation course called “Safe Moves City”. By using a realistic course, the ability of students to recognize and avoid traffic hazards and to walk and ride safely is improved. The lesson plans and traffic situations become more challenging for the upper grades so as to accommodate their “real life traffic challenges”.
Safe Moves will be returning to Portola Valley on Saturday, April 27 for our Earth Day celebration. Safe Moves will hold Bike Rodeos for children of all ages, as well as for adults, at the Town Center, and will have the “Safe Moves City” available again as part of their expert teaching.
A-B-C Bicycle Safety Checklist
A: Air in tires. Tires should be properly inflated and the treads should not be worn. Wheels should not be loose, wobbly or missing spokes.
B: Brakes. Your bike should stop when you use the brakes, and the brakes should be tight enough.
C: Chain. Does your chain comes off easily, look rusty, or squeak? Make sure the chain is in good working condition.
Seat should be properly adjusted for height, and also not be loose on the frame.
